Be a Master of Craps – Tricks and Plans: The Past of Craps
June 6th, 2020 by Donald

Be smart, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French headed down south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
