October 31st, 2023 by Donald

Be clever, play smart, and become versed in craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French headed down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he developed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
