Be cunning, play clever, and discover how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the nation. A few think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
