Be brilliant, play clever, and become versed in craps the right way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps come about from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
