Be smart, play clever, and discover how to play craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the nation. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
