Be brilliant, play cunning, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Later, he invented the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
