Be cunning, play cunning, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
