Be brilliant, play cunning, and master craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he designed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
